This year’s National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday turned Ganlushan Resort in Wuhan’s Huangpi District into a dazzling destination of joy, art, and cultural exchange. Over eight vibrant days, the resort attracted nearly 400,000 visitors, offering a unique celebration that harmonized traditional Chinese customs with global creativity — making it one of Central China’s most exciting holiday experiences.

The festivities began on October 1 with the launch of the Ganlushan International Street Art Festival, filling the resort with color, music, and excitement. The centerpiece performance, The Grand Magician — China’s first-ever stilt-walking fantasy show — was produced by the acclaimed team behind the Wuzhen Theatre Festival. Characters such as the white-robed wizard Harry, the elegant elven mage Rachel, and the mysterious Heron enchanted the crowds, moving gracefully through the audience on towering stilts as they brought magical stories to life.

“This was the most incredible live show I’ve ever seen,” said Zhao Yuyi, a visitor from Jiangxi. “It felt like stepping into a fantasy world.”

Wang Pengcheng, a Chengdu-based actor who played the white wizard, praised the energy of Wuhan’s audience. “Every performance here feels special,” he said. “The people of Wuhan are so passionate, and Ganlushan’s stunning scenery makes it the perfect stage for storytelling. I’m planning to explore nearby places like the Mulan area after the festival.”

Adding rhythm to the celebration was the African Drum Circle, where hundreds of participants joined in a “hundred-person drumming party.” The powerful beats filled the air, creating a sense of unity and excitement. The highlight came when Martin, an African PhD student studying in Wuhan, performed I Love You, China, receiving thunderous applause and heartfelt cheers from the audience.

Meanwhile, the International Gourmet Market treated visitors to a world of flavors with over 40 food stalls featuring global delicacies. “Our Eastern European Kitchen booth has always been a favorite among young people in Wuhan,” said Zhang Qibiao, one of the vendors. “Ganlushan allows us to share our culinary traditions with even more visitors.”

The celebrations reached their emotional peak on the Mid-Autumn Festival night with the Blessed Moon Bunny Lantern Festival. Families and couples gathered under the moonlight holding glowing rabbit-shaped lanterns, taking photos and exchanging warm wishes. The gentle glow of the lanterns illuminated smiling faces, creating a magical atmosphere filled with happiness and connection.

Ganlushan’s major attractions also saw record-breaking attendance. The Ganlushan International Ski Resort, Central China’s largest indoor competition-grade skiing venue, was a top highlight for sports enthusiasts. Zorica Stanković, Head Coach of China’s National Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom Team, praised the resort’s world-class facilities, saying, “This is one of the top three indoor ski resorts in China. I truly believe Wuhan could host international-level snow sports competitions in the near future.”

All four boutique hotels within Ganlushan reported full occupancy during the first six days of the holiday. Among the guests were newlyweds Mr. Wang and Ms. Jiang, who rescheduled their wedding from May to October 3 to celebrate at the newly opened Ganlushan Floral Hotel – Lanxue, surrounded by family, friends, and the resort’s breathtaking mountain scenery.

Developed by Wuhan Urban Construction Group, Ganlushan Resort stands as Central China’s first large-scale, ice-and-snow-themed cultural tourism complex. Since its opening, it has welcomed nearly 10 million visitors, evolving into a year-round destination that offers recreation, relaxation, and cultural experiences for all ages.

A representative from the Huangpi District Bureau of Culture and Tourism said that the district is rapidly developing a world-class “Mulan Tourism” destination. As one of its core attractions, Ganlushan Resort continues to innovate with new activities, festivals, and cultural programs, helping bring the “Mulan Tourism” brand to global audiences.

The celebrations are far from over — from October 24 to 26, Ganlushan will host the International Snow Friends Festival, featuring snow-themed competitions, interactive events, and festive winter parties. With its seamless blend of tradition, innovation, and international flair, Ganlushan Resort has firmly established itself as one of China’s most dynamic and culturally vibrant holiday destinations.
